A 'God-fearing' village has been left horrified after a prankster put 'pornographic literature' into its community library.

The mystery filth-monger placed the adult materials into a wooden box set up for residents in Cornholme in West Yorkshire to exchange books.

The NSFW donations prompted pure outrage from one resident who blasted the anonymous resident before taking a swipe at a nearby village.

In a note, which was placed inside the window of the mini-library, the outraged resident wrote: "Whoever is placing the copies [sic] of pornographic literature in here, stop!

"Cornholme is a good, God fearing Christian village.

"If this filth is to your liking may we suggest that you move to the cesspit that is Hebden Bridge."

The note has now gone viral and been shared more than 15,000 times on Twitter, while attracting plenty of comments from folks who are keen to know more about the drama.

One wrote: "I'm liking the sound of Hebden Bridge."

Another joked: "Had no idea Hebden Bridge was such a depraved place. Well, I was thinking of moving out of London..."

Someone else added: "Much as I struggle in rural environments, nothing but support for the militantly queer cess pit of Hebden Bridge."

The note has since been removed.

In response to seeing his town get slated, Hebden Bridge councillor Josh Fenton-Glynn shared a humorous post on Twitter in which he thanked the residents of Cornholme for their help promoting the town.

He wrote: "As a Hebden Bridge councillor I'd like to thank the people of Cornholme for help with our marketing campaign.

"Please check out our local independent shops. If the Cess gets too much we have a soap shop! Cornholme's also lovely, what it lacks in Cess it makes up for in nice pubs."

Cornholme is a former milltown, and has a population of just 1,600.
