Russian Woman Tries To Jump In Front Of Van In Insurance Scam

Russian Woman Tries To Jump In Front Of Van In Insurance Scam

Russia has seen a spate of insurance scams where people throw themselves in front of traffic - luckily for this woman, she's rubbish at it

Russia and things going wrong on the road tend to go together quite well - or at least quite frequently - and the latest evidence of this comes from the town of Klin, just outside of Moscow, from where bizarre footage has emerged of a young woman trying (and failing) to throw herself in front of a van as part of an insurance scam.

If you've ever seen the Peep Showepisode where Mark tries to avoid getting married by foisting a car crash upon himself, then you know exactly what is coming.

As one can easily see in the video, taken from a dashboard camera, the woman is standing quite serenely by the side of the road, only to run in front of the oncoming van just as it gets close to her, shoulder bumping into the vehicle and then dropping to the floor.

Fortunately for her, the driver clearly sees her coming and slows down to the point that, when she collides with the van, it has almost come to a total halt.

Subtle it is not, and almost immediately, the people in the van call her bluff, declaring it to be a 'set up'. The driver gets out to check on the stricken (or not stricken) woman now lying at the bumper of the van.

The driver was understandably worried about the welfare of the woman, and of himself, given that he could well be sued for smashing into a pedestrian, but reports in the Russian media say that he is not liable for anything, as it was totally obvious that she ran in front of the vehicle on purpose.

The police have so far said nothing and are not known to be investigating the incident, while the wellbeing of the woman is also not known.

As soon as the video was published on social media, many users called foul on it and questioned the motives of the woman for running front of the car. "People do not know what to do in order to get some money," wrote one Russian social media user.

Footage like this - and the plethora of other Russian fail videos - generally appear because a huge proportion of Russian drivers use dash cams to protect themselves.

As the country is so big, and the road traffic accident rate very high, almost everyone uses dashcams to prevent legal challenges against them should an accident occur.
