A crane has collapsed onto one of the biggest cruise ships in the world and left eight people injured.

The 228,225-tonne liner - which has a capacity of 6,300 people - was in a dry dock in the Bahamas when the incident happened on Monday.

According to the MailOnline, the construction crane collapsed and smashed into the stern of The Oasis of the Seas which is worth around £1 billion ($1.3bn).

Videos of the aftermath were uploaded on to YouTube where they have received upwards of 10,000 views so far. A dock worker can be heard speaking over the top of the longer video saying: "A couple of people might be - don't know - missing.

"I was right there on the dock. I just missed by the grace of God. Big accident. Big accident. All the crane's collapsed - big, big, big, big, big, big disaster.

"Big, big, big, big disaster. Disaster, disaster, disaster. Never seen nothing like this in my life time."

The crane came down on the huge ship's stern.

At the time of the collapse, there was only crew members on board the ship and no guests were present. The eight people that have sustained injuries are believed to be dockyard workers.

The MailOnline reported that none of them are thought to be in a life-threatening condition. A spokesman for the Royal Caribbean - the company that own the liner - said: "We are responding to a construction site incident at the Great Bahamas Shipyard, where Oasis of the Seas is currently in dry dock.

"We are accounting for the whereabouts of all site personnel. We are aware of damage to the dock structure and to construction cranes. We are assessing damage to the ship."

The world's largest cruise ship, MS Oasis of the Seas, owned by Royal Carribbean, makes her way up Southampton Water in 2014.

Apparently, the ship finished its last passenger cruise on Sunday and was at the port undergoing routine maintenance - it was scheduled to be moving to Miami for the winter schedule.

It is not yet clear whether the accident will impact the upcoming schedule.

RT reported that the injured parties were taken to hospital but most of them have now been released, according to Royal Bahamas Police.
