Dad Discovers Plane Under The Sea Off The Coast Of Scotland On Google Maps

Dad Discovers Plane Under The Sea Off The Coast Of Scotland On Google Maps

If you're not careful, Google Maps can be a dangerous thing.

What can start out as an innocent attempt to check an address can, before you know it, descend into a three-hour time-travelling session, where you find yourself looking at what your old house used to look like 10 years ago.

That's until you eventually catch a glimpse of yourself in the reflection of the monitor and you start to ask yourself some very serious questions about where your life is going.

Well one man may have actually put the technology to good use, after he spotted what appears to be a sunken plane, just off the coast of Scotland.

Dad-of-three Robert Morton, 55, said he was stunned when he noticed the image of what looks like an underwater aircraft, close to Edinburgh.

Mr Morton, from Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, told the Mirror Online he didn't have a clue what was going on.

The mechanical fitter said: "I was just looking on Google Earth on Monday and, by chance, I came across the picture of the aircraft.

"It looks like it is the sea, just off the coast of Edinburgh. It looks like it is underwater.

"Its very, very strange. It's incredible.

"I have never actually seen an aircraft on Google Earth so it is very strange. It appears to be underwater."

The eerie images show the plane just off the coast of the town of Joppa, less than a mile away from the Scottish capital.

But is this one of the biggest cover ups in British transport history or - more likely but less exciting - the result of a computer glitch?

Mr Morton opted for the latter and said it is most probably just an anomaly.

He added: "I have never heard of any aircraft crashing leaving Edinburgh or that area.

"I know the picture of the plane isn't really in the water, its probably the satellite looking down on it through thin cloud giving it that appearance.

"I thought it was unusual as I've not seen an aircraft in flight captured by Google Earth before.

"It may just be another Google anomaly." But this is not the first time Google Maps has been used to spot a mystery plane.

It comes after a tech expert claimed he had discovered parts of lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in a jungle in Cambodia, by using Google Maps to track it.

Ian Wilson says he used the technology to piece together what he believes to be evidence the Malaysian Airlines plane's wreckage is deep in a Cambodian jungle.

Google have been contacted for comment about the incredible images.
