Horrifying Model Shows What Home Workers Could Look Like In 2014

Let's try not to turn into Susan

While many of us have been enjoying the freedom of being able to work from home of late, some experts have devised a terrifying model of what the average worker could look like in just 25 years if we don't take things a bit more seriously.

So, even though it's nice to veg out in front of the TV while working, eating whatever you like and dressed in your PJs, it's still worth observing good working practise - otherwise you might end up looking like 'Susan' here.

Obviously, this depiction has to be taken with a frankly unhealthy pinch of salt, but the fitness experts and clinical psychologists that have devised this horrifying image of the worker of 2045 do have a valid point.

Susan's got hunched-over shoulders, plus she's obese, and has bloodshot eyes from staring at her computer screen, and a double chin.

Hell, I've only been at it for three months and that's pretty much already me.

The model was created by job experts DirectlyApply to show how - although we mostly have enjoyed the extra freedoms and longer hours of sleep afforded by home working - future pandemics and bad working practises could lead to longer term negatives.

A spokesperson said: "With lockdown having forced people across the globe into what has been the world's largest remote working experiment, our usual interpretation of the perk has been transformed forever,

"Whilst your bed-to-desk commute may allow for more free time and independence, will the physical repercussions to your mind and body be worth it in the future?

"From reduced social interaction and lack of proper exercise, to hunched shoulders and digital eye strain - Susan outlines the many physical implications of what spending hours glued to your laptop can unknowingly be doing to your physical and mental well-being."

With that in mind, how do we alleviate the stresses of home working to ensure that Susan remains in our nightmares, instead of in our living room?

Look at her eyes - taking regular screen breaks every 15 to 30 minutes can stop that bloodshot look from emerging.

Just do something else, and look at something else that's further away.

Oh, and take a break from typing too. That can give you repetitive strain injuries.

Remember to correct your posture. Working on the couch is great, but it's going to take a toll on your back and neck eventually.

It's important to get outside, perhaps on a lunch break or for an evening stroll. Vitamin D and B-12 help avoid hair loss, and give you better skin.

It goes without saying that you should drink plenty of water as well.

So, keep a good routine, maintain good posture, and take regular breaks. Drink plenty of water, and get plenty of sunshine, and we can all avoid looking like Susan in the years to come.
