More Than 6000 People Have Taken Out Alien Abduction Insurance

Well, I suppose you can't be too careful, can you?

Remember earlier this month when almost two million people joined a Facebook page called: 'Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us'? Well, it seems as though folk in the US have actually been preparing for something like this for a lot longer.

Because, since 1987, people have been taking out insurance packages to protect against alien abductions - and when I say 'people', I mean, a lot of people. Six thousand, in fact.

Mike St Lawrence set up his alien abduction insurance company all the way back in the 1980s.

The policies are worth $10 million (£8,076,850) and will pay out if folks are lucky (or unlucky) enough to be abducted by aliens and then placed back down on Earth, Fox35 reports. But you will need to have a signature from a legit alien to get your payout.

The tongue-in-cheek insurance packages cost just $24.95 (£20.15 ) and include a paper copy of a certificate in a frame, or you can save the planet, and a bit of cash, and get a digital one for $19.95 (£16.11).

Mike St Lawrence, from Altamonte Springs in Florida, who runs the business, says he also offers asteroid and reincarnation insurance.

He jumped on the chance to drum up some more business by announcing that the coverage now includes Area 51 - if it is stormed and the aliens that are definitely living there are released.

The policy includes 'outpatient psychiatric care, sarcasm coverage, and double identity coverage', according to the site.

St Lawrence stressed to Fox35 that the insurance packages were just meant as a joke.

Policy holders will get one of these fancy certificates.

"I don't want to try to rip somebody off," he said.

"The people that come to me, If I think they don't understand the terms and conditions, that this is tongue in cheek, I won't sell it to them."

The small print stipulates that your payout will be released in equal instalments of one dollar a year for 10 million years - so let's hope the aliens also gave you some sort of eternal life hack, so you can make the most of the policy.

Oh and in case you're wondering, one guy has actually managed to make a successful claim, according to St Lawrence.

He says one policy holder enlisted the help of an MIT professor who was able to state that an implant found in the man's body was not made of an 'Earthly substance'.

St Lawrence took this as proof - even though there was no signature from ET or any of his pals - and began paying the man out at a rate of $1 a year for around 10 years when they 'lost contact'. He's probably been beamed up back to his own planet, mate.
