Mysterious Spiralling Object Seen In The Sky Above Turkish City

Residents in the Turkish city of Bursa were left scratching their heads after a mysterious spiralling object burnt brightly in the sky before breaking up as it neared the ground.

Footage of the unusual and unidentified object shows it spinning downwards leaving a trail of black smoke behind it.

Omer Akin, who filmed the clip, said: "We are a group from this neighbourhood, and we all grew up here. We were just hanging out on the terrace when we suddenly saw it.

"At that time, it continued to fall to the ground. Of course, we do not know where it fell and what happened to it. We were even joking and said that it might be an atom bomb."

One local resident speculated that it might be a crashed military aircraft that the country was keeping secret, or possibly a piece of a satellite as it was falling from a great height and burning brightly.

They went on to say they didn't think it was a meteor because it was spiralling to the ground rather than shooting across the sky.

As yet, there has been no official comment on what the burning object was.

Sharing footage online, residents questioned what they had saw with one saying: "There is a UFO in the sky. This is so strange."

However, it wasn't the result of alien invasion, and was actually just a super rare weather condition.

The Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau said these light pillars usually occur in colder climates when light sources such as the sun, moon or street lights reflect off ice crystals suspended in the air.

The local weather agency said in a social media post: "We call these 'warm evening light pillars'. They form in strict conditions even more particular than regular light pillars.

"They require the absence of low-and medium-level clouds, and the existence of only high-altitude clouds.

"They can be seen on evenings with high-humility, high atmospheric visibility, and low wind. There must also be ice crystals present.

"The absence of any one of the above conditions means they cannot exist."
