Orlando Shooting Has An Absolutely Ridiculous Impact On Gun Sales In The US

A spike in sales a sorry indictment of America culture.

After the shocking events that took place early last Sunday morning, with 49 people losing their lives, America's gun laws have once again been put in the limelight.

However, it seems that the worst mass shooting in American history has also had another impact. Sales of one of the guns used, the AR-15, have spiked. In fact, one gun dealer has seen sales of 15,000 firearms since Sunday. No kidding.

Jay Wallace, the owner of Adventure Outdoors, told 11 Alive that usually his shop would sell two a day - but in three hours on Monday, 25 were sold.

Wallace spoke about the kind of people purchasing the firearms: "There's one that's buying them for an investment and the other one is the person that's buying them because they're afraid they won't be available; they're afraid the government is going to take them away.

"It's a big misconception that these are fully automatic firearms. Many people say that. But they are totally wrong. It's the same as any other firearm. You pull the trigger one time and it fires one time."

The guns cost between $500 to $3,000 (£350 - £2,100)

Wallace also said that when people want to commit an act of terrorism, they'll find a way, whether guns are available or not: "If we want to try and get into a terrorist mind, I think they go by their religious beliefs and I don't think the religious beliefs say kill people with a rifle. It just says 'kill people.' And if they don't kill people with a rifle, they'll kill them some other way and you won't be any less dead."

The Daily Mail reported that that gun dealer Tom Engle, who owns Hunters Warehouse in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, had seen between 13,000 and 15,000 sales of high powered automatic weapons since the attacks on Sunday.
