A Catholic priest, who was caught having a threesome with two porn stars 'on a church altar', has been told he will not be charged with obscenity.

Reverend Travis Clark, from Louisiana, hit the headlines last year when he was arrested following an incident at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

It later transpired that the 37-year-old had been having sex with Mindy Dixon, 41, and Melissa Cheng, 28. All three are now facing charges of vandalism.

Speaking about the recent development to drop potential charges for obscenity, Clark's lawyer Bradley Phillips said he felt it was the right decision because of the consensual nature of the incident and the fact it was on private property.

Hitting out at the vandalism charge, though, Phillips said: "Once again, they have overstepped their bounds as this nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to regulate the morality of private individuals.

"Just because you don't like something, doesn't make it criminal. My clients look forward to their day in court as we continue to fight this baseless allegation."

Clark was arrested after a passerby saw lights on at the church and went over to see what was going on.

According to court documents, the two women involved were dressed in corsets and high heels at the time.

It was also reported that stage lighting and sex toys had been found at the scene, as well as a phone and a camera mounted on tripods.

Speaking to the police, Clark reportedly claimed the two women were just his 'guests and friends'.

Clark, Dixon, and Cheng were all arrested at the scene.

Prior to the meet up, Dixon had posted on social media on 29 September saying she was on her way to meet up with another dominatrix to 'defile a house of God'.

Following his arrest, the archdiocese announced it had suspended Clark from the ministry.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond shared an online video addressing the issue of Clark's arrest.

He said: "Many people feel anger, betrayal and disappointment, and I feel the same way, as do my brother priests.

"Regarding Travis, his obscene behaviour was deplorable, his desecration of the altar in the church was demonic and I am infuriated by his actions.

"When the details became clear we had the altar removed and burned. I will consecrate a new altar tomorrow."

Clark was later released from jail on a $25,000 (£19,000) bail.
