Shaun Ryder says he's not sure whether he's been seeing UFOs or if he's having a 'nervous breakdown'.

The Happy Mondays frontman has long been fascinated in extra-terrestrials and 'future technology', ever since he had his first sighting when he was just 15 years old.

And in the 44 years since, he has had a number of similar experiences, including a mysterious 'wobbly thing' that hovered over his back garden.

But speaking to LADbible, the 59-year-old says he can't explain what he's seen over the years and that it could all be in his head.

Asked if he has ever been scared of the 'UFOs', the legendary frontman said: "No. What I've seen, I don't know if it's alien encounters or future technology, I really don't know.

"But I have seen a couple of things, and I've said it before, once you see something they don't seem to f*****g leave you alone.

"Like I said about the craft that came over my back garden, you know, I don't know whether that's alien craft or what.

"The mad thing is I don't know whether I'm having some f*****g nervous psychotic breakdown or I'm actually seeing these things.

"I've been tested and I'm not going blind, so what am I seeing?"

In 2013, Shaun made a documentary, Shaun Ryder On UFOs, in which he travelled the world speaking to academics and witnesses about alien life.

And on ITV's This Morning, Ryder said he returned from filming the doc in Chile and woke up at 7am the next day to a strange object floating over his garden.

He said: "I looked out in my back garden, and over my apple tree there's this big - well, when I say big [it was] about 20 by 10ft - plastic Airfix-looking wobbly thing.

"It looked like it was hanging there on strings because it was moving [side to side].

"And I'm thinking, 'Production are having me at it here', they've mocked some sort of Airfix model up out of plastic, you know those Battleship parts, and mocked one of these up.

"So I'm slapping myself silly."

Adding: "And there was also this buzz of energy that you could feel - nothing heavy, just this sort of buzz.

"And I'm watching this thing and it started to make a cloud. I just watched it and the cloud got bigger and bigger and it went off really slowly."

How to Be a Rockstar by Shaun Ryder is out on 7 October 2021 on audiobook (W.F. Howes), narrated by Shaun Ryder himself.
