Short Men Have To Earn Way More Than Tall Men To Be Desirable To Dating Partners

A study from 2006 that has gone viral again states that men who are five foot six need to be earning an additional $175,000 (£127,000) in order to be able to compete with men who are six feet tall when it comes to dating.

So, being really tall not only gives you a better chance of spotting predators in the distance, but it also makes you more likely to be desirable to women.

The research was carried out by the University of Chicago and looked specifically at heterosexual relationships in the world of online dating.

While there is no data to bring the study into 2021, there's a good chance not much has changed and short dudes are still getting short-changed in the love department.

Well, unless they're fabulously wealthy, that is.

Jeff Bezos is only five foot seven, ladies. Use that information as you will.

It's never bothered Bezos.

The figures also state that a six foot two man can afford to earn $30,000 (£22,000) less than a 5' 11.5'' man and still be as desirable to women.

Interestingly enough, the study also mentions that men don't want to date women who are taller than them - with women between 5' 0'' and 5' 2'' being as desirable to men as a 5' 5.5'' woman who earns $43,000 (£31,000) more.

Not exactly shocking information, given how sensitive and fragile a lot of men really are underneath it all.

However, there is a serious side to all of this fun, though. The data also points out that the biggest disparity is not related to height, but ethnicity.

African American men and Hispanic and Asian men have to earn significantly more if they want to make it with a white woman.

Now that is a shocking piece of information.

Elon Musk is six foot two.

The study points out: "Maybe the most striking numbers are with regard to income-ethnicity trade-offs. For equal success with a white woman, an African-American man needs to earn $154,000 [£112,000] more than a white man.

"Hispanic men need an additional $77,000 [£56,000], and Asian men need an additional $247,000 [£180,000] in annual income."

So, Asian blokes need to earn a quarter of a million more? That doesn't seem right at all.

Five foot ten, and unfathomably wealthy.

Before we get too harsh on the attitudes of white heterosexual women reflected in those stats, because it's not a great look, the study also showed women can't compensate for their ethnicity with a higher income.

Does that show that men won't allow money to cloud their judgement when it comes to dating, or that no amount of money is enough to make men date across races?

Fascinating stuff, really.

If you want to check out the whole study, it's available here. Be warned, it's VERY long and VERY detailed.
