For most people, finding out your partner has been cheating on you would be a pretty big kick in the teeth.
However, an Aussie sex therapist claims infidelity could actually be beneficial for couples in the long run.
Sydney-based relationship counsellor Matty Silver says it's actually been shown to bring them closer together.

Speaking to news.com.au, the love doctor said: "Starting to understand an affair and how it happened can help provide clarity and give answers to the many questions a couple may feel are still unanswered.
"This is not about assigning blame, but a time to deconstruct the affair and find out where the roots of the infidelity started so they can make decisions on how their relationship can go forward."
This may be timely news, as research has shown in the past that people are more likely to cheat on their partner during the summer.

The good folks over at Ashley Madison - the dating site designed for married people to organise illicit affairs - claimed the number of new joiners increased dramatically over this period.
And according to the firm, the peak time for cheating back in 2017 was July.
Speaking about the phenomenon, Dr. Tammy Nelson, sex and relationship therapist and author offered some potential reasons for why couples are more likely to have a wandering eye in the summer.
She said: "Increased levels of serotonin are associated with more exposure to sunshine, ultimately allowing people to feel happier.

"With more sun exposure in the summer people will feel happier, more confident, and this could help kick start someone's decision to start an extra-marital affair, allowing them to feel better about the decision."
One person who doesn't agree with Matty, however, is Erin Colleen, who went on a one-woman mission to expose cheats and report back to their wives and partners.
The 34-year-old says she has been cheated on several times over the years, so wanted to stop other women staying in the dark while their partners arrange hook-ups online.

She's successfully outed five men at the time of writing and, unsurprisingly, each woman has been thankful, although obviously upset. Erin's even received d*** pics and reported them back to the men's partners.
When one woman learned the truth about her fella, she text Erin: "I really wish there were more people like you in the world.
"I'm a nurse who worked 80 hours last week so we could go to Disneyland. Kind of ironic working to go to the most magical place on earth when something like this was going on back at home."
