Get the Warsteiners in.

If you're a model citizen who doesn't drink alcohol, I've got bad news for your sunshine: you're more likely to die prematurely. Sucks to be you.

Get the Jägers in, quick!

Time reported that a paper titled 'Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research', (one of the best papers ever published), headed up by Charles Holahan of the University of Texas, actually has certified case studies and statistics to show that abstainers really are more prone to pushing daisies early.

So should we all start going on massive benders, bringing tinnies into work (good for morale) and taking a swig of vodka for breakfast as an aperitif for the day (I actually know someone who does this). Nope. Those that are likely to have more longevity and not kick the bucket are moderate drinkers. The connoisseurs. Those who are a fan of the tipple. One to three drinks a day max kind of guys and gals.

The best drink for you is red wine (think I'm living til I'm 100) and can aid with circulation, a healthy heart and, would you merit it, the study shows it also includes sociability.

Joking aside, on a global scale wealth can have a significant impact. In some socioeconomic classic, drinking can be expensive and people may not be able to afford alcohol. Socioeconomic circumstances can also impact diet and general health and are major contributory factors, too.

The team studied 1,824 people aged 55-65 at the start of the experiment over the course of 20 years and 69 percent of abstainers (people who may have drank in the past but not anymore) passed away, compared to only 41 percent of the moderate drinkers. 60 percent of the heavy seshers had died.

That's some commitment from abstainers to not have a Christmas egg nog or a Thanksgiving beer!

Although the researchers and authors of the paper highlighted that drinking can be dangerous in other ways and affect memory, that's not what you came here to read about.

So go on, treat yourself to a bevvy or two tonight: you deserve it!

I took their advice, got some lagers in, kicked back and watched all of the Spurs match against Man U because it's good for my health. Screw writing articles. (Note to senior management - I didn't do this, don't worry). ;)
