Ja Rule And Fyre Festival Co-Organiser Are Being Sued For $100m

Well this was to be expected

Social media was sent into meltdown on Friday when people were showing the depths of humanity that was the Fyre Festival.

It was originally dubbed a luxury music, art and food festival but ended up being described as the Hunger Games for elite millennials.

Tickets for the ritzy event in the Bahamas cost anywhere between $450 to $12,000 and was promoted by dozens of models including Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajowski and Bella Hadid.

Some of the headliners included Blink 182, Skepta, Major Lazer and Daya. But they all started pulling out before the event even kicked off because they hadn't be paid.

While chaos was secretly bubbling away as the festival was being organised, the shit really hit the fan when guests began their journey. Some flights from Miami were cancelled and others were delayed by hours.

The ones who did eventually arrive were not met with what some were calling refugee camp conditions, lost luggage and terrible food.

Twitter user, William Finley IV, was constantly updating the world with the horrific shit storm.

After a while, Fyre Festival announced it was postponing the event; which was kind of a moot point considering hundreds of people had already arrived.

A statement on its website said: ""Fyre Festival set out to provide a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience on the Islands of the Exumas. Due to circumstances out of our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on time and we are unable to fulfil on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests

The festival is being postponed until we can further assess if and when we are able to create the high- quality experience we envisioned."

The event was organised by rapper Ja Rule and Billy McFarland. The 'Always on Time' singer posted this to Twitter

McFarland explained to TMZ why the festival didn't even come close to living up to expectations:

But, if international media attention for throwing the world's worst party wasn't bad enough, now the lawyers have got involved.

Variety reports a lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by Mark Geragos who is calling for a class action on behalf of his client Daniel Jung.

Mr Jung is calling for a easy, breezy $5 million in damages for alleged fraud, breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith and negligent misrepresentation.

The lawsuit is being launched against rapper Ja Rule and McFarland, who organised the event together.

The legal case is expecting more than 150 plaintiffs, collectively seeking $100 million. According to Variety, the specific wording is savage: " [The] festival's lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees - suddenly finding themselves stranded on a remote island without basic provisions - that was closer to 'The Hunger Games' or 'Lord of the Flies' than Coachella."

As the drama was unfolding last week, people were not in the least bit sympathetic:

Organisers say next year's event (seriously? There's an event next year) will be conducted in the US.
