When a celebrity dies there's always a huge outpouring of grief from other stars on social media, and last night's sad passing of George Michael was no different.

Celebrities from around the world took to Twitter to pay tribute to the former Wham! star.

However, Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar must have got her wires crossed somewhere because she tweeted: "Do you really want to hurt me? I guess you do 2016 #ripboygeorge I was truly one of your biggest fans". Wrong George, mate.

She was soon inundated with 'helpful' tweeters pointing out her awkward mistake and deleted the tweet.

She then followed up her original tweet with a second post, saying: "Just as sad when you get the correct information - #ripGeorgeMichael thank you to everyone who corrected me - it's still so sad".

George was found dead at his home yesterday afternoon. Police said his death is being treated as unexplained, but added that there were no suspicious circumstances.
