Little Boy Blue's final episode has left viewers furious, as the ITV drama portrayed how those responsible for the murder of Rhys Jones behaved 'like animals' in court.

In the fourth and final episode of the ITV mini-series, broadcast tonight, Rhys' parents came face-to-face with their son's killer at Liverpool Crown Court.

The episode focused on the court case and was filmed on location inside the courtroom used for the trial.

Rhys' parents Mel ( Sinead Keenan ) and Steve ( Brian F. O'Byrne ) were shown setting eyes on those responsible for their son's murder and attempted cover-up.

Here's how Twitter reacted to the final episode of the show....

Earlier this week Melanie and Steve Jones, the parents of the murdered schoolboy, explained why they worked with producers on the four-part series.

They told the Mirror: "Our decision to get involved with Little Boy Blue stemmed principally from a desire to honour our son, Rhys, whom we lost ten years ago this year," they said.

"It is very important to us, and our other son, Owen, to keep his memory alive and for people to understand how important he was to us. But beyond this we saw this as an opportunity to let the public see what happens to a family like ours in a situation like this.

"We wanted to show how the pressures we were placed under, the huge weight of grief thrust upon us, the endless waiting, not knowing if we would get justice for Rhys, can tear a family apart.

"We spoke very openly to the programme makers about what we went through because we wanted to let Sean Mercer and the others involved in Rhys' murder know that our sentence never ends."

It was certainly a powerful piece of television.
