Fans at the D23, Disney's fan expo in Anaheim, California, have been treated to the never-before-seen footage of the long-awaited Avengers: Infinity War - and obviously it went off.

In Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige's own words, the film will 'bring [together] almost every single hero' introduced into the franchise over the last decade.

Josh Brolin (Thanos), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Dave Bautista (Drax), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Sebastian Stan (Bucky), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) were all at the expo alongside Marvel's Kevin Feige and co-director Joe Russo.

"I've got to admit, these guys have not been together on stage for a long time, and even I find myself geeking out," said Feige before introducing world-first Infinity Warteaser footage.

Here's what they saw:

In the footage, the Guardians of the Galaxy emerged from lightspeed in a field of asteroids and red gas.

"Okay, Guardians, don't forget this might be dangerous, so let's put on our mean faces," Chris Pratt's Star-Lord said. Before Hemsworth's Thor hit against their windscreen, unconscious.

The Guardians brought him in and Mantis revives him. "Who the hell are you guys?" Thor asks.

From there Tom Hiddleston's Loki is seen offering the Tesseract up as a gift, followed by a shot of Tom Holland, dressed in the gold-laced suit that Stark offered him at the end of Spiderman: Homecoming, noticing that his Spider-senses are tingling on a school bus.

Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange strike defensive poses, then Thanos emerges from a smoky portal - over the top comes Brolin's voice-over: "Fun really isn't something one considers when balancing the universe. But this ... does put a smile on my face," the space-tyrant says.

"I know what it's like to lose, to fight so desperately with all your life, but to fail just the same," Thanos says. "Run from it, but destiny still arrives."

There was then an image indicating that Thanos already has two stones in the Infinity Gauntlet, followed by a scene of him battling the Avengers in which the bad guy pulls down a planet - which it looks like he intends to throw.

Although guests were treated to the sneak preview, fans still have a while to wait, as the first half of Infinity War hits theatres May 2018.
