The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm have announced the release dates for the ninth episode of the Star Wars saga and the next Indiana Jones movie.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be released on 24 May 2019, and the fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise will come out 10 July 2020.

Indiana Jones 5 was originally slated to come out in 2019 but it looks like the project has been delayed.

The sequel to Frozen will also be out 27 November in 2019, although - as it's a kids movie - I'm going to let you pretend that's something you don't give a shit about.

The May release of Star Wars: Episode IX means that this year's Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be the last to have a December release, meaning that fans won't have to wait quite as long for the conclusion to the franchise's latest trilogy.

Fans will already know that The Last Jedi premieres 15 December this year, you can watch a trailer for it here...

Disney acquired the rights to the franchise in 2012 when it bought Lucasfilm and the next Indiana Jones movie was confirmed to be in the works in May 2015. Jurassic World actor Chris Pratt's is thought to be filling Harrison Ford's boots.

"Both Steven Spielberg, director of every Indiana Jones film, and star Harrison Ford will return" for the next Indiana Jones movie," Lucasfilm and Disney announced.

At the moment most Star Wars fans are focused on the next movie, rather than the ninth, with a lot of speculation on where the trilogy is heading, and what The Last Jedi means.

In The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker was referred to as 'the last Jedi' and the First Order wouldn't rest until he had been killed. So, as the only Jedi left in the galaxy you might think that referred to him. But what about Rey? The force has awakened her and she's been using her powers. We all assume that she's going to become a Jedi in the next film or two. So what does the episode eight title mean?

It's a simple question of whether Jedi is singular or plural? Well, the official Star Wars account in Italy has shed some light on this. It's translation - Gli Ultimi Jedi - infers there is more than one Jedi.

Thanks to Google, gli translates as this... "Gli is the plural form of lo. If you use lo in singular, you have to use gli in plural. Examples: Gli studenti, gli sport, gli psicologi, gli yogurt." So, yeah, basically more than one.

The Last Jedi is due to be released on December 15 later this year, so prepare for some agonising months in between then when it becomes unbearable to wait any longer.
