Gordon Ramsay Tells Everyone How To Cook The Best Burger On Earth

I'm salivating.

Gordon Ramsay may have made his name by mastering the art of swearing, as much as for his cooking, but you can't deny that he knows a thing or two about creating great food.

Here, the Scottish-born chef has given us an insight into how to achieve the perfect burger. With summer around the corner, he couldn't have timed it better. In a 10-minute video, he shows step by step how to assemble what he calls the 'F Word Burger', although for once he keeps the swear words off the menu.

I thought one or two curse words might have made the burger a bit juicer, but what do I know?

The first step is to prepare the meat patties, which should be done the night before to prevent them from breaking apart under heat. Take them out of the fridge on BBQ day and let them sit for a bit, then season with salt, pepper and a bit of oil. He says it's key to season the sides as well, to give the meat an extra kick.

Ramsay says the grill needs to be piping hot before you chuck the patties on, and advises us to move them as little as possible once they're there. Keep the lid down once the meat is on to keep the heat circulating, and to prevent the bottoms from sticking to the grill.

Make sure you toast the buns as well, to prevent them from becoming soggy from any condiments and to hold the burger together once it's complete. You can add a bit of seasoning on the buns, as well as the grilled onions, before throwing them on the grill. Gordon says he prefers caramelised onions to the raw type - they're less acidic and won't dominate the flavour of the whole meal.

He also says that the patties he serves at his restaurant in Las Vegas are lightly brushed with a bit of butter to make them even more tantalising. Chuck the cheese on top while they're still grilling to ensure they melt nicely and evenly.

Now to the important part: the assembly.

Mayonnaise goes on the base bun, he suggests, before you lightly break up the lettuce to fit on the bottom. Then a big slice of tomato goes on - season it with salt and pepper as well as some more mayonnaise so that your guests don't have to break the burger apart to add more. Chuck on the meat with melted cheese and then the onions, with a bit more mayonnaise on the underside of the top of the bun, and voilà!

To be fair, the end of the video definitely made me hungry. I love as well how he namedrops his next-door neighbour, Stevie Wonder, and casually drops in that Kim and Kanye live three doors down. Righto, Gordon, we get it.

There you have it - a quick and easy guide to becoming the king or queen of any barbeque.
