‘Crash Team Racing’ Is Going Prehistoric For Its Next Grand Prix

‘Crash Team Racing’ Is Going Prehistoric For Its Next Grand Prix

The second seasonal Grand Prix event in Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled is kicking off on 2 August - and it's taking players way back in time, to an era long before Crash was even a twinkle in Naughty Dog's collective eyeballs.

The Back N. Time Grand Prix - see what you did with the name there, guys - will commence at 7am Pacific time / 3pm UK time this Friday, bringing with it loads of new unlockables, a brand-new track called Prehistoric Playground, and new characters.

Regarding those incoming racers (and new skins for existing ones), Back N. Time will deliver Baby Crash and Baby Coco, Baby T, Caveman Zem, Sabretooth Pura and a handful more - you can check them all out in the image below (or at Activision's blog post on the season).

The Prehistoric Playground track features huge plants, geysers, caves full of weird paintings and - obviously - dinosaurs. The new karts are a mixed bunch though, with a Flintstones-like vehicle rubbing shoulders with what looks more like a Back to the Future DeLorean, with flight mode enabled. (Yeah, we know it's the Probulot 2000, but come on.)

Characters and cosmetics can be unlocked in the game's Pit Stop area using Wumpa Coins, earned through play and - sneaky, sneaky Activision - by using real money. Yep, optional microtransactions have arrived in Crash Team Racing. Gaming in 2019, people.

Looking ahead, Spyro the Dragon is set to guest in Crash Team Racing when it enters its third season, and many more characters will be added beyond that.

Back N. Time runs from 2 August until 25 August, and is free to participate in for anyone who owns the game (d'uh) and has an internet connection (oh).
