In the UK, there arn't a lot of female firefighters - only about seven percent are women. It's a tough job - not only do firefighters deal with fire, but bombs, hazardous chemical spills and rescuing victims.

But for Gunn it was a calling.

"I decided to become a firefighter when I was 19 - I have always loved being active and being part of a team. When I found out you could combine this with a physical job, challenging tasks and doing something good for others, the choice was easy. I've never regretted it - I absolutely love my job."

She wasn't put off by the fact she was female either. 'When I applied for the job in the fire department my mom said: 'I have never heard of a female firefighter before... why you?' and I answered: 'why not me?'

"Most people think it's cool and inspiring - it's not common to be a female firefighter so people get a little confused when I tell them what I do. Overall people are positive and curious.

"For me, being a firefighter is normal - my friends tell me I have 'boy humour' and I think I'm a little more 'handy' than most girls. Most men think it's cool and impressive, but others I think become a little scared. Maybe they think it's too 'manly' - but if they can't handle a girl with a chainsaw they need to toughen up!" Bloody hell!

How do you become a firefighter?

The training to become a firefighter is one of the most intense in the world - they have to be able to deal with intense heat, extreme situations and carry their equipment. Firefighters can't have any extra fat on their body - they have to be really trim. The suit and the equipment that fireman and women wear is over 50lbs, so they also need to be incredibly strong.

So if you want to pretend you're a fireman - if only during an intense workout - you need to get yourself a weighted vest. Here's a few exercises that firefighters do to up their fitness level. Gunn can take us through it...

(Don't forget your weighted vest)!

Step ups - step up onto a bench that's about knee height. Push down through your heel and straighen your leg. Step down. That's one rep. Alternate legs and do 44 reps.

Push ups - move into a plank, make sure your hands are facing in and lower yourself so your chest is near the floor. Pause here then push yourself up. Do 12 reps.

Body squats - make sure your toes face forward and are slightly more than shoulder-width apart. Push your hips back as if you're about to sit in a chair, lower your body, pause and then push back up to standing. Do 12 reps. Gunn hasn't shown us this, so use your imagination.
