This dad wanted to teach his eight-year-old son a lesson about hardships, so he took him on a backpacking trip for a week, with just 100 yuan which is about £11.50. Now, before you say that that sounds cruel, I'd like to let you all know that little Dou Ge loved it and they had an amazing time.

Pu Wei, from Xi'an in China, is determined to raise his son correctly. He wants him to be humble and kind, and that was when he came up with idea of the trip. He assured Chinese media that his son was just as keen to take up the challenge. He said: "Dou Ge is naturally curious, and every day during this trip, whenever I see how excited he is to discover new things it pushes me forward to go on with the trip."

They travelled a total distance of 600km, either walking or hitchhiking to get where they needed to go. They also worked odd jobs in return for a place to stay. Pu also said that lots of strangers offered them food and free lifts reported Mashable.

Pu used his Weibo account to post daily pictures of their adventures, as long as a running tally of how much they had spent, and it looked like they had an amazing time.
