George Michael Helped Out At A Homeless Shelter Anonymously

RIP to a top lad.

Since George Michael's death, numerous stories of his low-key generosity have been told and it seems the pop legend carried out numerous quiet acts of kindness throughout his life.

It has now emerged that George worked at a homeless shelter but chose to keep his identity a secret, according to social media.

"George Michael worked anonymously at a homeless shelter I was volunteering at. I've never told anyone, he asked we didn't. That's who he was," Emilyne Mondo, an activist, wrote on Twitter.

Mondo said she believes George chose to stay discreet for fear of intrusion from the press.

"Would like to respond to the unexpected interest in the tweet about an experience with a kind man, who happened to a musical icon," she said.

"It is my belief that the reason for anonymity was to avoid press intrusion. This obviously can't happen now.

"And of course a want and need to help others. As usual there are a lot of stories about the controversy and difficult times he had. The story is a real account of a generous human."

It seems that this act of kindness wasn't a one-off. In 1997 George lost his mother, Lesley, to cancer and almost 10 years after her death he played a special free concert in north London for NHS nurses as thanks for the care they gave her.

George was also among the stars involved in the original Band Aid single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' which raised more than $24 million (£19 million) for famine relief in Ethiopia.
