The police officer killed in the Westminster attack has been named as PC Keith Palmer.

The 48-year-old, who was tragically knifed to death just inside the railings at Parliament, has been described as a husband and a father.

PC Palmer was a member of the Met's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection command and had 15 years service.

He was unarmed when the attacker - who was wielding two large knives - came charging towards him after mowing down pedestrians in his car on Westminster Bridge.

Five people have been confirmed dead in the incident, including the police officer and the suspected attacker, after a 4x4 vehicle mowed down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before a knife attack in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament.

Photos showed how Foreign Office Minister Tobias Ellwood MP battled to save the life of the policeman.

In the aftermath of the incident, people took to social media from across the globe to share their support and solidarity using a London underground icon and the hashtag #wearenotafraid.

RIP Keith Palmer.
