A 17-year-old lad in Tennessee has married a 71-year-old woman after they met at her son's funeral. Gary Hardwick has since turned 18 and had previously dated a woman of 77.

He tied the knot with Almeda Errell in a ceremony after a three-week romance. I guess you can't afford to mess about when you are dating a woman who was born closer to the beginning of the First World War than 2016.

Gary arranged the marriage in six days for just $200 (£137), which is just a little bit more than a week's payment of the UK's basic state pension.

The two of them are now sharing Almeda's house with one of her grandsons, who is three years older than her new husband.

"I wasn't looking for a young man, but Gary just came along," said Almeda, a supermarket assistant. "I just knew straight away that he was the one."

But not all of Almeda's family were fans of the two of them hooking up.

"Some family members thought Gary was far too young for me, and that I must be crazy," said Almeda. "I told him I wasn't crazy, and that we loved each other."

Two weeks after their first date, she had no hesitation in accepting when Gary proposed on the phone, and later, on their wedding night, they had sex for the first time.

Almeda said: "It was the best ever. I'd never had a connection like it before."

But was it everything Gary had expected and more?

"It was wonderful, beyond my wildest dreams," said Gary. "She really is my dream woman and the physical side of our relationship couldn't be better."

Fair enough, mate, I guess whatever makes you happy.
