While dogs and cats have a considerable amount of cute and funny videos on Facebook and YouTube, goats are quickly catching up. Whether it be footage of them fainting, ones that sing over the top of Taylor Swift songs or just dressed up in pyjamas, they certainly can rack up the views.

Because of these factors, it appears that goats might just be the trendy pet to own right now. Not that anyone should own a pet just because it's in vogue, but still - maybe cats and dogs won't hold the duopoly of animal ownership for much longer.

Another trend sweeping parts of this beautiful planet is goat yoga. Yes, you read that right - you can bring your beloved goat to a session and both do downward dog together.

A New York Times article, titled 'Year of the Goat' noted how the four-legged animal is quickly becoming very popular on social media sites. Instagram page Goats of Anarchy has racked up more than 500,000 followers, while the hashtag #goats has nearly a million tags. The American Goat Society has also noticed a seven and a half percent increase in Nigerian dwarf goats being registered in the country over the past few years.

It's not hard to see why - look how cute they are.

American Goat Society spokesman William Kowalik has told the newspaper: "I know there are stereotypes: they eat cans and smell bad. That's not true. They are very much like dogs. They are great pets. The goats know what kind of mood you are in. They can get a person to open up."

The UK branch of the RSCPA has a few guidelines if you're thinking of picking a goat over another animal. They warn that owning a goat "is a big commitment and can be very time-consuming and expensive. Before getting any goats it's important you consider if you have the time, resources, commitment, knowledge and facilities to care for them."

You'll also have to check whether your place is zoned for goats.

While those might be some big things to consider, it appears that they are a pretty adorable pet.
