Why Buy A Place In Sydney When You Could Have Your Own Party Island?

Why Buy A Place In Sydney When You Could Have Your Own Party Island?

It could be yours for less than AUD $500,000

According to popular belief, millennials have decided they prefer to spend their cash on smashed avocados and coffees, rather than saving to own their own place.

And it's hard to blame them, to be fair. Why would you look all over a congested city, going to several property viewings every weekend and furiously trying to outbid others, only to get a few hundred square metres at best?

Why put yourself through that exhaustive experience, when you could have your very own tropical paradise just off the coast of Queensland?

Welcome to Wedge Island.

The owners have installed a hot water shower, a toilet, a storage shed, all-weather mooring and a 15,000-litre (3,900 liquid gallons) rain tank. There's no shortage of sandy beaches and beautiful views on this 23-acre piece of land.

If you're thinking this is in the middle of nowhere, think again. Wedge Island is about five kilometres from the mainland where you can pick up all your essential supplies. It's also only about one kilometre south from the world famous Great Keppel Island.

It seems like the perfect place to enjoy any part of your life. It maintains a lovely average high temperature of 23 degrees in the peak of winter, while it sizzles up to about 32 degrees in summer.

The asking price was initially AUD$850,000 (£502,000, or USD$646,000) but that's been cut down to a cool AUD$495,000 (£292,500, or USD$376,000).

Selling agent Richard Vanhoff has told The Morning Bulletin it's been on the market for about 12 months. "It was a party island for a group of single guys," he said.

"They had a sort of golf course on the top and they used it for chipping, fishing and partying.

"It was just party central for these boys and the reason they are selling is they are growing up a little bit, getting girlfriends and are spending more time elsewhere."

So that's why it's up for sale - now on to the more important questions, like 'why don't I live there'?

What are you waiting for?
