Experts think the Great Pyramid of Giza could be hiding a 'secret recess', after using infrared thermography to scan the monument.

A project called ScanPyramids is a number of new techniques to try and find out more about this hidden chamber and what it might contain.

I'm just going to say this now, whatever is in there, definitely has a curse on. Have none of these so-called experts seen The Mummy? Or The Mummy Returns?

The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as Khufu Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure for 4,000 years, standing at 479 feet (146 metres). The team behind ScanPyramid want to try and demystify the pyramid and locate this hidden recess.

Mehid Tayoubi, president of the HIP Institute, which heads the project, said: "All the devices we put in place are designed to find where the cavity is located. We know there is one, but we're trying to find out where."

The team are going to use thermography, which works by detecting the heat given off by objects and muography, which detects the impact of cosmic rays, to try and find out what Khufu is hiding.

One of the hidden places is believed to be hidden deep in the northern-face of the pyramid, with experts claiming it is a corridor which goes deep into the structure.

A second chamber is also believed to lie beneath the corridors.

Once the team discover all there is to know about The Great Pyramid of Giza, they will turn their attention to locating the burial place of legendary Queen Nefertiti, who, according to British Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves, could be buried within a hidden chamber in the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
