It's probably fair to say we all watch porn, and watch it quite regularly.

But what do we really know about the industry? What is it like to work in? It's discussed very little and most people know nothing about it.

Cosmopolitan have spoken to a former porn star going under the pseudonym S.K to shed some light on the situation.

You can hear the full discussion in Cosmo's Happy Hour podcast here.

In the past S.K. has wrote about what happened when she told her family she did porn in an article titled "How I Told My Father I Did Porn." She goes on to explain more about why she got into the industry, and the pros and cons of performing.

'It wasn't like I was desperate for money, so there was no need for me to do anything I didn't feel like doing,' S.K. says. '[Porn] was more of a passion project for me, so I really only did as much of it as I thought would be fun.'

In the podcast she discusses that before she got into porn she was a webcam girl while studying in New England.

Speaking on this time in her life she said: 'You could truly choose your own adventure, and I had a lot of props and costumes.'

Eventually she left the East Coast and moved out west to LA, which is the home of the adult industry.

After Googling the best industries to work for she was eventually contacted by former porn star Shy Love, who founded Adult Talent Managers.

She also revealed that when Shy asked her about why she got into the industry she never really had an answer.

When S.K. met production companies and was asked to get naked it was not something she had an issue with.

'[If] you are signing up to do porn, you have to expect that you are getting naked and people are going to be looking at you in a sexual way,' she explains. 'I think as long as you know what you are signing up for... but I don't know if everyone sort of has the luxury I had, where it's not like my rent was due.'

During her time she enjoyed the interview sections before each shoot. But she later found out that most of us guys have no idea that even exists.

'Most guys I would talk to would be like, "Wait what? I skipped over the at least first 10 minutes." So they are just waiting for that money shot I think.
