So cool.

NASA has discovered the remains of an ancient city underneath a forest in the US.

Using 'remote-sensing equipment' known as lidar, scientists were able to zoom in on what appeared to be a 10,500 year-old settlement near the Beaver River in Oklahoma.

They were also able to spot 'hints of the fossils and bones hidden below the surface'. Archaeologists believe that area was once home to a Stone Age tribe who hunted bison, according to newslegde.com.

Although the lidar isn't able to spot things like bones, it gives archaeologist an idea of where to start looking.

Lee Bement, one of the archaeologists involved, said it was 'useful in delineating where we need to concentrate our efforts. It saved us a lot of time and effort'.

Lidar uses lasers to send out short pulses, which bounce back after hitting an obstacle and were previously used by NASA to map the surface of the moon.

NASA has also found the remains of ancient civilisations in Connecticut and Honduras.

The photo at the top of the page shows what the area in Connecticut looks like from a normal air-borne camera. And then using the lidar. In this photo you can see walls and what would have been roads.

I don't know about you but this I think this is seriously cool. Imagine what else they are going to eventually find.
