New York For £56? Yeah, There’s A Catch

“Start spreading the news. I’m leav… oh, hang on.”

Ever been to New York City? Nah, me neither. D'you know why? Because it costs the sort of dollar that means you could forget about ever leaving the house again.

We've all at one time experienced the misery that is trying to find a cheap flight. You sit there with your laptop, bloodshot eyes, frantically typing in the kind of bargain-hunting spree that makes a Primark shopper look cool and composed.

In fact, I've just had a quick look. If you wanted to go from London to JFK in July 2017 (seven months away), right now it would cost you £1,207 with British Airways... and that's one way! I'm alright, I'd rather retire early.

That's also just the flights. You've got to factor in a hotel, food and not to mention that miniature souvenir of the Statue of Liberty that your grandma Peggy is just desperate to sit on her mantelpiece.

However, if you're still for the Big Apple, the City That Never Sleeps, there might be a perfect deal for you for just as little as £56.

Shit, that's a bargain! Where do I sign? Pack my bags. Boss, I'm taking some holiday, see you in a week or so. 'Start spreading the news, I'm leav...'. Hold on, what's this? It says there's a catch.

Ah, got it. So, I can go for less than 60 big ones in the summer of 2017 but all Norwegian Airlines is asking is that you have to fly from Edinburgh airport in Scotland and you will fly to New York State in the US.

Norwegian Airlines chief executive Bjorn Kjos says: "We'll also be flying to secondary airports in New York. That means we don't pay as much and can charge cheaper fares."

Not exactly ideal if you live in, say, London. Let's have a look. Yep, the train takes five hours to Edinburgh airport and there are not yet even prices available for March 2017.

Plus, you also have to add in the cost of getting from New York State to Manhattan, and the sneaky extra prices of things like baggage.

Still cheaper than the average, I guess, and a good hack, but probably still back to the hunt for cheap flights for me. Search: Benidorm.
