The Foo Fighters headlined the Sunday night of the Summersonic Festival in Japan this weekend and they had a special guest join them on stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome our new best friend, Rick Astley," Dave Grohl told the crowd. "This is fucking crazy. I just met him two minutes ago."

The band began to play the opening riff to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana, before launching into a rendition of Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the performance:

This isn't the only special guest appearance Dave Grohl has been part recently. Earlier in the year he brought his 8-year-old daughter on stage to play drums at one of the Foo's gigs.

Harper Grohl was brought on stage at the Secret Solstice Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland to play a cover of Queen's 'We Will Rock You'.

And it was all caught on film here:

Grohl said that his daughter told him that she wanted to play drums, he said: "I said, 'Do you want want me to teach you?' She said, 'Yes.' And then I said, 'Do you want to get up in front of 20,000 people in Iceland and play?' And she said, 'Yes.'"

"My days are numbered," usual drummer Taylor Hawkins said at the end of her performance.

"Ladies and gentleman, welcome the next generation... there's another Grohl on the drum set now," David Grohl said.
