It's been almost two years since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished, but investigators may be closer to finding its final location after plane debris was reportedly found.

An unidentified object, which investigators claim may belong to a Boeing 777, has been found off the coast of Mozambique, a source has told NBC News.

The piece of metal, which is believed to be part of a plane's horizontal stabilizer, was discovered on a sandbank in the Mozambiqiue Channel - near where the only confirmed piece of debris was found last July.

A number of investigators from the U.S., Australia and Malaysia have all reportedly seen photographs of the newly-found debris and say there's a strong chance it's from a Boeing 777.

It's still not known how or where the plane, which was carrying 239 people, disappeared but an Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) report is expected to find it was probably crashed deliberately.

Martin Dolan, the chief commissioner of the ATSB, told The Times:

"We're not at that point yet [to conclude the investigation], but sooner or later we will be and we will have to explain to governments what the alternative is.

"And the alternative is, frankly, that despite all the evidence, the possibility that someone was at the controls of that aircraft and gliding it becomes a more significance possibility if we eliminate all of the current search area."

These new clues could finally help investigators work out exactly what happened to the plane.
