There's lots of stuff you can do still pretty well when you're pissed. In fact, I'd say I'm discernibly better at some things when I'm pissed. Playing pool and darts, dancing, demolishing a donner kebab - it's all stuff where my performance is significantly improved after getting the mojo only a pint of vodka can give you.

One thing I don't think I would be a fit state to do when I was shitfaced, though, would be fly a plane. This is exactly what two pilots were arrested on suspicion of doing as they prepared to fly a transatlantic passenger jet from Scotland to Canada.

Officers arrested the men, aged 37 and 39, at Glasgow airport on suspicion of being 'impaired through alcohol' just before they were going to take off at 1pm.

Police raised concerns over the pilots' behaviour before the Air Transat A310, carrying up to 250 passengers on board, was due to depart from Glasgow to Toronto on Monday afternoon.

A spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that two men aged 39 and 37 years have been arrested in relation to being allegedly impaired through alcohol under the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003 (Section 93)."

The Canadian airline have confirmed their employees were arrested, and the flight had been rescheduled, with the passengers put up in hotels.

A spokesman said: "Air Transat has learned of the arrest on July 18 of two crew members assigned to its Glasgow-Toronto flight.

"We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter before making any further comments. The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat."

The flight has been rescheduled to depart on Tuesday.

However, some passengers were pissed off because they weren't given an official reason for the delay at the time.

Apologising for the delay to Sean Brown, a passenger who had been on holiday in Scotland from Ontario, the airline tweeted it was 'for operational reasons [and] we have no choice'.

Remember lads, there's nothing cool about drinking and driving. Just be safe and get a taxi.
