Yesterday when reports came out of Russia that Putin has ordered his officials to fly all their relatives home, it's fair to say there was a bit of panic in the UK (or at the very least in this office).

However, it's not just us who got the jitters, because there are now reports that Russian citizens are also pretty worried about the news.

The Daily Mail reports that some Russian residents are even going so far as to claim it is 'another step towards war'.

Political analyst Valery Solovei is quoted as saying that there were plans for 'serious limitations on people who wanted to leave Russia.

"Officials of all levels and their relatives will be recommended not to leave the country. As soon as officials are limited in their freedom of travel, they will make sure the rest of society gets the same treatment," said Solovei.

"As far as I know a tourist tax will be introduced for people wishing to go abroad."

Putin's order comes at a time when Russia's relations with the west are growing increasingly strained.
