Two Team GB Gold Medal Winners Reckon They Know Why The Olympic Pool Is Green

The mystery of the green Olympic pool might have been solved by two members of team GB.

In case you missed it, Tom Daley shared a picture of the Olympic pool yesterday and it was a pretty vivid green colour. He posted it on his Twitter account, alongside the caption: "Ermmm...what happened?!"

But now Team GB gold medal winners Jack Laugher and Chris Mears have added their thoughts about what's turned the water Shrek-green. They think it's ink from the banners that surround the pool, which does explain why the colour of the water matches the banners so much; plus, let's face it, they're in a much better position to comment on it having actually spent time in the swamp pool.

They told 5 Live that the boards are blue below the waterline and green above it, where the ink hasn't got wet and hasn't got into the water. Seems legit to me.

Other theories are a little more gross, like, the fact that maybe there wasn't enough chlorine in the water and that's allowed algae to grow.

The water has been tested by Rio officials and is said to be perfectly safe for swimmers, but Jack and Chris were both pretty pleased that they managed to dive without swallowing any of the water. Can't blame you there, lads.

And top bombing to you both, too! Massive congrats on your gold medals.
