Is This The Worst iPhone Launch You Can Remember?

Is This The Worst iPhone Launch You Can Remember?

It's out today, lads.

Today is the official release date of the iPhone 7, did you know that? Did you spend the last two days camped outside the Apple shop? Or did you pre-order only to receive a 'soz not soz, we've got none in stock' email today?

Loads of customers who pre-ordered were gutted after thinking they were getting the new phone today only to be sent a message last night saying that wouldn't be possible. They took to Twitter to vent, obviously.

Apple has already announced that they've sold out of the iPhone 7 Plus as well as the new black models; but even though it's selling well, it seems like a lot of the hype has gone this year.

In previous years, hundreds of people queued. This year there's been quite a different story. The Mirror reports that only ten people turned up at the Birmingham store and just one solitary shopper bothered to turn up at the Apple store in Reading. There were similar scenes in Scotland, with noticeably fewer eager shoppers waiting to get their grubby mitts on the brand new model.

I remember at the launch of the iPhone I actually KNEW people who queued overnight to get one. Now, if one of my mates said they were doing that I would take that as a sign that we've grown apart and can no longer speak, ever again. So, what is it that's caused this year's iSales to be a bit *yawns*?

I'm not an expert on tech. I was still using a Blackberry until last October, but here's a couple of the reasons I think it's not causing as much excitement this year:

  • We're all iBored. The new phone hadn't even come out yet and people are already speculating on what the iPhone 8 will be like. We have months of rumours and 'leaks', so that by the time it does come out, we're not arsed.
  • This is a particularly disappointing upgrade. It's like they've stopped trying because they know people love giving them money. I mean, other than getting rid of the headphone jack, which no one even seems happy about, what else have they done? If you check out any of the tech forums, they're mainly just full of people asking 'is it worth buying one?' over and over again.

I think we all need to take a leaf out of the Danes, this is the launch at a Three store in Denmark...

Sums up how I feel about the whole thing, to be honest.

I mean, I'm not saying they won't sell well, because of course they will. If Apple brought out the iDogShit people would pay for it, I just think that everyone is a bit bored.

*I'm still definitely getting one, though. I love giving Apple all my money.
