What an absolute legend.

If you think that the Queen is doing well to retain the crown at the age of 91, you should have a look at Reg Buttress, who's been working at supermarket Sainsbury's since he was 57.

But unfortunately, the 94-year-old is retiring after nearly four decades of service to the store in South Wales, telling Wales Online: "There are times when you're retired, especially in the wintertime, when you can't do anything, you can't go out. But not me, I go to work."

Since starting work at the Cwmbran store in 1981, Reg has already retired once, when he was 65, but he returned a few months later on a part-time basis. He's decided to hang up the uniform for good this September, on his birthday.

His wife of 65 years died a few years ago and he's got one son (who has retired) and a grandson, David, the former CEO of the huge food delivery service JustEat. The 94-year-old apparently met his wife at a wedding where she was chief bridesmaid and he was the best man.

Before he joined Sainsbury's, Reg had a pretty decent CV.

He started working when he was 13 years old as a collier's help but he was made redundant two years later. Reg then took up a role at Singer Cars in Birmingham before signing up with motorcycle manufacturer BSA.

Reg then moved onto working on railways in Pontypool and missed the war because his boss told the Army he was needed for essential work. He stayed there for a quarter of a century before being made redundant. The elderly crusader also refereed rugby games for a whopping 35 years.

He says that he's decided to retire because he's getting too slow to do the job, but he insists he's loved every minute. Over the years Reg has dressed up in costume for special occasions, even as the Devil for Halloween.

Reg will reportedly spend his days tending to his chickens and catching up with his mates at the rugby club.

I reckon everyone can take a leaf out of his book - still going strong at his age with a brilliant outlook on life. What a legend. What a LAD.
