I promise not to make any jokes about high fliers or careers taking off, OK?

At just 26 years old, Kate McWilliams is thought to be the world's youngest plane captain.

Kate, who works for EasyJet, began her career at 19. She joined a commercial pilots training scheme and eventually clocked up enough flying hours to apply for the 'command course'. She smashed it and became a captain - and the world's youngest, at that.

Kate was also an air cadet from the age of 13 and was flying loop-the-loops at 15. Remember, when you were 15 and you were flying loop-the-loops? No? Me neither. The nearest I came was spinning around the park with a bottle of cider.

Kate told the Mirror: "I get asked how old I am on an almost daily basis. Usually, that question comes from the cabin crew but sometimes passengers ask, too.

"When I tell them I'm 26, most people are impressed with my achievement at such a young age."

Last week Kate flew from Gatwick to Malta with 19-year-old Luke Elsworth, the UK's youngest pilot.
