Family Fork Out Over £200 For An Operation On Their Goldfish

You'll be pleased to know he's doing well.

A family have spent over £200 on an operation for their poorly goldfish, Bob, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

If you've got a pet you'll know they're much more than just an animal that lives in your house, they're one of the family, so when Bob's owner noticed he was struggling they wanted him to get the treatment he needed.

Poor little Bob, who is an impressive 20-years-old, was suffering with a tumour on his fin, which was making it difficult for him to swim. Bless him.

They took him to the Toll Barn Veterinary Centre in Norfolk where he was treated by the talented Dr Faye Bethell.

Dr Bethell, who has previously operated on a constipated goldfish - honestly, I'm not making this up - carried out the 30-minute op using micro-surgical equipment and a special operating table to keep him wet.

Dr Bethell told the Daily Mail: "The option was to remove the lump or put him to sleep and now he is doing brilliantly.

"Bob's owners were really pleased because the goldfish is older than their children and he's very much considered part of the family."

Bob was fed anesthetic water through a tube which was hooked up to a mini-heart rate monitor throughout. The tumour was removed using tiny forceps and scissors.

Dr Bethell added: "It's pretty complicated because everything is so small. They don't have a massive volume of blood so have to make sure they don't lose too much blood."

You'll be pleased to know Bob is making a fantastic recovery and as he's a goldfish, he's probably forgotten all about the procedure.

Pets are such an important and valued member of families that a lot of the time you do go out of the way to do everything for them. When it comes to the time when you have to say goodbye, it gets really tough.

This mother and her son's were very cut up about their beloved Tom passing away.

Given their adoration for the feline, Cathy Vickers decided that a proper burial and funeral was in order. She posted to Facebook saying: "RIP sweet Tom. You will always be the coolest cat. My boys will miss you!"

However, in an odd turn of events, an hour after posting the harrowing message and burying who they thought was Tom, she posted another update, confessing that they'd accidentally covered the wrong cat in dirt.

"Ok this is embarrassing. I don't know whose cat we buried, but Tom just showed up at our house. Only at the Vickers' house. Got some happy boys here," she said in the update.

Her son posted screenshots of her statuses to Twitter, racking up tens of thousands of retweets and likes.

There's no news yet on whose cat it actually was that was buried, but at least it got a good send of from the family. Albeit the wrong family, but at least there were people there paying their respects.

At least Tom, and Bob, are now both safe and healthy. A true shame about the now buried cat, though.
