Man Flies From London To Germany Accidentally Using Girlfriend’s Passport

German authorities were not happy.

You'd expect that airport security would be extra vigilant these days, ensuring that everyone has the correct documentation before boarding a flight. However, it appears that there was a tiny mishap at London's Gatwick airport when Michael Randall was heading to Germany.

As he was heading out the door to get to the airport, he picked up his girlfriend's passport and didn't notice. While many would have got to the first check point and be promptly turned around, the 23-year-old managed to make it all the way to Berlin, where he had to explain to German staff about his passport.

The small mistake could be understandable if the couple looked alike, however Michael is quite facially different to Charlotte Bull and they have different coloured hair. He's told Sunday People: "It's outrageous I got that far. EasyJet are meant to check the name against the boarding pass but they obviously didn't.

"The first I knew something was wrong was when I arrived at Berlin airport. I thought honesty was the best policy so I went and told security.

"They pulled me aside and made me wait for the whole plane to disembark. At first I thought they were going to confiscate Charlotte's passport."

Luckily for the McLaren Formula One team technician, after a 90-minute interrogation, German authorities issued him a one-day travel pass and allowed him to wait until a mate to bring his passport to Berlin.

Charlotte has also told the publication: "It was a terrible breach of security, even more so considering how scary current times are.

"We mixed up the passports while unpacking, which was our fault. But there has been a massive error by the airline."

Easyjet insists it's investigating the incident.

It appears that these types of errors happen from time to time with different airlines. Samuel Jankowsky was outraged when he boarded a Eurowings flight in Germany and expected to wake up in the UK. However, when he roused from his slumber he was told the plane was actually heading to Las Vegas.

He says no staff who checked his ticket told him he was about to board the wrong flight and the entire misadventure cost him €878.66 (£799.10), because he had to book another flight as well as a hotel. He adds that the trip home wasn't exactly pleasant: "On the flight back I wasn't treated at all well by the cabin crew. I didn't want to be there anymore than they wanted me there.

"The crew were professional but they treated me like they had a criminal on the plane, maybe a serial killer. It was like I was in the film Con Air.

A spokesman for Eurowings said: "We are aware of this case. This case happened several weeks ago and has already been resolved. The passenger had passed through passenger control and the identification documents had been properly checked by the Federal Police.

"Due to an error by a service provider's employee, the passenger managed to board the long-haul flight. According to the authorities and Eurowings, at no time was there any safety risk.
