What is it with US airline companies and an almost unrelenting desire for PR nightmares?

After the full-on social media shit storm surrounding United Airlines last month, JetBlue is now in the spotlight after it allegedly kicked a family off a flight for bringing a birthday cake on board.

The Burke family were on a JetBlue flight from JFK Airport to Las Vegas earlier this month when they got involved with an argument with a flight attendant over the cake, which resulted in two of the kids being left in tears and the whole family being booted off the flight, ABC7 reports.

The trouble started when Cameron Burke, who managed to film the whole thing, settled in his seat with the cake, which he had ordered especially for his wife's 40th.

Once seated he got into a bit of a debate with a member of staff about whether the cake needed to be placed in the overhead, or if it could go under the seat.

While the two were talking it out, a second flight attendant turned up and told the family that, in fact, the cake couldn't be on the flight at all.

She then said Cameron was being 'non-compliant', when he made an attempt to calm the situation.

Cameron responded by asking the woman, 'have you been drinking?', because he thought her behaviour was 'erratic'.

In the clip you can see two children getting upset as the argument over the cake rumbles on. Eventually, the entire family is asked to leave the flight. Cameron told ABC7 his family went quietly off the plane.

However, a JetBlue spokesperson told the news outlet: "(The customer) refused multiple requests from the crew to remove the items... became agitated, cursed and yelled at the crew, and made false accusations about a crewmember's fitness to fly."

Cameron maintains he never swore or raised his voice, and added that the other passengers were on the family's side. He said he is now considering taking legal action against the airline, according to TMZ.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the family re-booked their flight with United Airlines, but they left the cake behind.
