People wear costumes all the time when they hit the slopes, whether it be a morph suit, animal onesie, or something completely different. But one man is getting attention for his costume for all the wrong reasons.

It's alleged the 51-year-old, who was tearing up runs at Thredbo, NSW, was wearing a Chewbacca suit when he assaulted a staff member. Local police have issued a statement to say the man used his snowboard to 'repeatedly' injure the employee, who suffered 'facial and dental injuries' in the attack.

The press release adds: "Police attached to the Monaro Local Area Command attended and arrested the 51-year-old man.

"He was taken to Jindabyne Police Station where he is assisting with police enquiries."

The man in question has posted to Facebook his version of the story. He said: "Been banned from Thredbo by the CEO Jordan Rogers for riding in the Chewbacca costume, so I dropped him, he lost consciousness and some teeth.

"[I] coped [sic] a head but [sic] to the bridge of the nose and have been having some difficulty with balance.

"Been ordered not to have any contact with Thredbo staff (even if I know them) about what happened and must stay 15km away from Thredbo. Other bail conditions are impossible for me to follow so they have set me up to fail. I am thinking of going into custody here until the trial."

The man has been charged with using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence, but police haven't elaborated on what sparked the assault. He has been granted bail and will front Cooma Local Court on September 6th.

The injured staff member has also reportedly taken an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against the defendant.

There are plenty of ways to rip it and grip it when shredding down the mountain, but this just isn't one of them.
