A police officer has lost her job after sending a racist Snapchat.

Melissa Adamson, a part-time police officer in Pennsylvania, actually lost not one, but two jobs after posting a thoughtless Snapchat with the word 'n*gg*'.

The post shows Melissa in her uniform with the caption: 'I'm the law today n*gg*'. The image ended up online and was spotted by her boss, Mayor Michael Cherepko of McKeesport, who fired her straight away. She'd only been in the job a number of weeks, the Independent reports.

Mayor Cherepko posted on the city's Facebook: "This post displays a degree of conduct and character that is far different from what I would expect from an officer in this city. It is absolutely unacceptable.

"Without hesitation, my office and the police chief's office immediately concluded that this officer's actions will not be tolerated in the City of McKeesport. She has been relieved of her duties, and her employment has been terminated."

As well as losing her job with the police, WTAE reports that Melissa has stepped down from her other job after the story picked up traction online.

Melissa has spoken out to say that it was a 'stupid mistake' and that she doesn't have a racist bone in her body.
