Eggheads star CJ de Mooi will not face extradition, despite claiming he had thrown someone in a canal in the Netherlands almost 30-years ago.

The 46-year-old former prostitute, whose real name is Joseph Connagh, was wanted for questioning by the authorities in Amsterdam after writing in his book that he had punched and thrown a mugger in the canal there in 1988.

In an extract from his autobiography released last year, he wrote: "This is the one incident of my life I do regret. I was in a phone box and this old guy, obviously a massive drug user, came up behind me with a knife in his hand.

"He told me to turn around, open my bag and give him whatever was inside.

"It was the only outburst of violence I've ever done. That's one of the main reasons why I absolutely abhor all violence.

"He caught me on the wrong day and I just snapped.

"I fully suspect I killed him. I've no idea what happened to him."

However, luckily for de Mooi, attempts to extradite him from Britain have been blocked after a judge described the Dutch case as 'dodgy'.

Rachael Scott, prosecuting, said: "Towards the end of last week a letter was received from the Dutch authorities responding to questions from the Crown Prosecution Service.

"It addressed two heads, whether there was a domestic arrest warrant in the Netherlands, an essential requirement for a valid warrant, and secondly, whether a decision had been made to charge Mr Connagh.

"The response to this set out that no, there was not a domestic arrest warrant, and he was not being charged."

The final extradition hearing is set for 28 November, but after no domestic warrant was issued, Myles Grantson, defence lawyer for de Mooi, applied to discharge the European Arrest Warrant.

I suppose there's a lesson to be had from this whole ordeal though, isn't there? If you potentially murder someone then keep it to yourself, rather than admitting to the whole thing in a book published and distributed to thousands and thousands of people.

De Mooi you might be good at quizzes, but as far as I'm concerned you're a fool.
