Hunter S Thompson's Daily Drug Routine Is Unreal

How did he do this?

Legendary writer Hunter S Thompson is as well-known for his love of drugs as he is his writing, famed for 'Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs', and creating gonzo journalism.

But yeah, back to his mad sesh days.

Whereas most of us will start the day with a coffee and maybe some Coco Pops if we're feeling like pushing the boat out, that won't do for a drug-fiend such as Hunter - he likes to start his day with a Chivas Regal, Dunhill cigarette, the morning papers and all finished off with some cocaine.

You might be thinking that drinking Chivas Regal the moment you get up is a bit early, but Hunter S didn't get his arse out of bed until 3pm, so I guess that's an OK to start drinking. He wouldn't have his first line until around 3.45pm and he'd follow that with more Chivas Regal.

He must have been earning a fortune to burn through all that every single day.

His daily drink and drug routine was published in E. Jean Carroll's biography of the journalist: Hunter: The Strange and Savage Life of Hunter S. Thompson.

It wasn't just cocaine and whisky he was into; he also made sure to fit time in his busy day for Heineken (very specific), acid, weed and grapefruit - which isn't a drug but is delicious.

Hunter certainly liked to do things his own way, whether that was eating fettuccine in a hot tub or requesting that Hollywood star Johnny Depp fire his ashes into space.

Johnny, who was a good friend of Hunter and played him in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, was more than happy to oblige, even spending $3 million to ensure the job was done properly.

His ashes were fired from a cannon placed atop a 153-foot (47 metre) tower in the shape of a double-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button.

The funeral that took place in 2005 and was attended by public figures including John Kerry, Jack Nicholson, John Cusack, Bill Murray, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Josh Hartnett, Ralph Steadman and more.

"All I'm doing is trying to make sure his last wish comes true," Depp said at the time. "I just want to send my pal out the way he wants to go out."

Yeah, fair enough, mate.
