Russia Has BlackListed A Porn Site Because It’s 'Damaging To The Human Psyche'

Could the UK follow suit?

I went to Russia once on a school trip and every souvenir shop we went in shots of vodka were pressed on us - I was 13. In retrospect, it seems a pretty crazy, dangerous place.

Which is why it's surprising to me that the Russian government - which is headed Vladimir Putin who recently said that Russian prostitutes 'are the best in the world' - is cracking down on porn sites.

The Russian government has blocked access to Brazzers through Russian servers because it has a "negative impact" and "violated human right's".

The Canadian porn network is made up of 31 different websites and was gaining populatity in Russia before it was banned.

The ban is the result of a court case, in which the prosecution argued that young people and minors need to be protected and that banning the website was in the interests of the Russian Federation.

It's not the first porn site that Russia has clamped down on - in September, Roskomnadzor, the country's media watchdog also banned PornHub and YouPorn.

PornHub didn't really care - they saw it more as a business opportunity and responded by giving two weeks of free access to Russians on their premium paid for website which wasn't banned.

Russia isn't the only country that's cracking down on porn, the UK government could soon be doing it.

The UK is about to vote on a digital economy bill, which will ban websites from showing non-conventional sex acts to people in the UK.

There's no definitive list of what's deemed as "conventional" but some weird definitions have cropped up like the "four finger rule" which limits the number of fingers you can put in any orifice.

Other things that won't be allowed include urination and menstrual blood because they could be constituted as abuse.

It's also going to put strict age constrictions on porn websites so underage kids can't sneak on and be traumatised.

Some people see it as censorship and others are adamant that it's going to filter out abuse, especially of children.

It's a pretty controversial bill.

There's quite a misconception when it comes to the porn industry. It's perceived that it's full of obese blokes wearing food-stained vests donning a pencil-thin moustache with slicked back hair, telling pretty women to bend over.

But like most other things, it's an industry and a business.

Around five per cent of all internet surfing is to porn websites, and that doesn't sound like a lot.

But if you take out Facebook, googling weird medical questions, directions and phonecalls and internet shopping - that's all you have left.

Porn is big business - it's not all free videos, it's also pay-per-view which is highly lucrative.

Some of the top porn websites - which are run by Brazzers - have over 100 million clicks a day.

The largest most popular porn sites, like YouPorn and PornHub are all owned by big media companies.

And YouPorn and PornHub are linked - they're both owned by a company called MindGeek but that company owns a lot of the top ten porn sites. They're all interlinked, and the ones that aren't are all suing each other for copyrighted porn.

But Brazzers is diversifying it's portfolio and going into porn video game parodies.

That's right, that's a thing.
