Whether you enjoyed The Last Jedi or are still not over the disappointment, you might be pleased to hear that a familiar sci-fi star is set to enter the galaxy far, far away.

None other than the 11th incarnation of the Time Lord from Doctor Who, Matt Smith, has been drafted into Hollywood for next year's Star Wars: Episode IX. But who could he be playing? Variety were the ones to break this news, hats off to them, but unfortunately their sources didn't reveal any juicy details regarding who his character will be.

This means Smith could be part of the Resistance or the First Order, but fans reacting to Variety's story are hoping for one villain in particular. One commenter wrote "Admiral Thrawn. If he is not, they need to rewrite so it happens. Idea credit, my wife," whilst another three simply added "I could see him as Thrawn" , "Please be Thrawn..." and "GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN!!"

Grand Admiral Thrawn has been a fan favourite ever since he was first introduced in the 1991 Timothy Zahn novel Heir to the Empire. He was finally recreated for the hit TV show Star Wars Rebels, but as of yet hasn't appeared on the big screen.

Could we finally see him added into cinema history? Maybe, maybe not. We could definitely imagine Smith playing this character, their faces are actually kind of similar (sorry Matt). Of course, this is all just speculation at this point. Other key characters fans have thrown into the mix, too, such as a young Snoke or Rey's father.

Interestingly enough, Smith will be the third Doctor who's (time) travelled into the Star Wars universe. Maybe they're just undercover and are trying to save a planet? No, I don't think so. Peter Cushing played a human Doctor in the films Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D and was also the evil Grand Moff Tarkin, who blew up planets for fun.

And then David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor and probably one of the more famous Time Lords, voice acted Huyang in The Clone Wars TV series. I think it's fair to say Matt Smith has some pretty big shoes to fill. Again.

What do you think about this news? Who do you think Smith will play in the upcoming Star Wars film? Let us know.
