Netflix Could Be On The Way For Nintendo Switch Users

Netflix Could Be On The Way For Nintendo Switch Users

The games console doesn’t currently support the streaming platform, but that could all be about to change

Everyone has Netflix nowadays. And if you don't, you probably have your mate's login details to watch the thousands of weird and wonderful things that the streaming platform has to offer.

From the sublime to the ridiculous (I'm talking live action fireplaces and boat trips down Norwegian canals, people) you can get it all on your TV or device.

Well, not exactly. Not all devices can currently receive Netflix, but that might all be about to change. Nintendo Switch users might soon be about to get hold of their favourite shows from their device.

One intrepid Twitter user sent a message to Netflix last week asking whether he'd be able to binge-watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on his Switch anytime soon, and he received a less than encouraging message.

Netflix replied: "Hey there! There are currently no plans for Netflix on Nintendo Switch. We appreciate your feedback on it!"

Not great news for the 10 million Nintendo Switch users out there. But wait! There might yet be hope, as they soon deleted that tweet and put out another one saying: "Correction: We are still exploring the opportunity with Nintendo, but don't have definitive plans to share at this time. The incorrect original tweet has been removed."

So they're saying there's a chance. Which is better than saying nothing, I guess. Nintendo meanwhile, are keeping their cards pretty close to their chest though and refused to comment on the matter.

When the console was released early last year they said they were in talks with streaming services like Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix to bring apps to the product. So far, they've only managed to bring Hulu to the Switch, though users in Japan can get Niconico - a Japanese video hosting platform.

Imran Chowdhary, an analyst from market research company GfK told the Sun: "There are a lot of things to sort out to make sure the experience for the consumer is as it should be."

However, he thinks that making the device Netflix compatible would be a worthwhile project, adding: "This would really help drive the idea of the Switch being a portable device beyond gaming.

"If it's to continue its growth, it will need to consider doing what it can to become more appealing to those who don't have one. It could also be a way to introduce streaming services to a younger audience for whom the Switch might be the first device of this kind."

Watch this space, Switch users.
