A Brand-New Lemmings Game Has Released Today For iOS And Android
Well, none of us saw this one coming. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has just put out - like, today - a new version of the old-school puzzler Lemmings, for iOS and Android devices.
Promising thousands of levels, the visually overhauled game is the first legit entry in the Lemmings series since, we think, 2006's release for PlayStation 2, 3 and PSP. And don't @ us if we're wrong. It really doesn't matter.
What does: Lemmings is back, baby. Anyone who had an Amiga back in the day will be very familiar with DMA Design's classic, with all the digging and the blocking and the exploding. (And yes, that's the same studio that went on to create the Grand Theft Auto series.) These days, Lemmings is in Sony's hands, hence them announcing this mobile game.
Says Serkan Hassan, on the PlayStation Blog: "Now it's time for a whole new generation to save/slaughter those adorable critters... with a brand-new Lemmings game out today."
The post continues: "As our story begins, our cuddly friends find themselves homeless as a result of an environmental catastrophe. No, this time it's not our fault."
I don't think they mean Sony's fault - unless they do. In which case, unplug your PS4s, right now. They're watching us all. Anyway, many more details on the new game can be found on the Blog, here, but the basics are: this is Lemmings, it plays like Lemmings, and a whole lot of Lemmings are about to die, horribly. Brilliant!
Lemmings is out right now, for free, albeit featuring the usual array of in-app purchases. I'll probably be getting it, because I am old. What about you?
